FreeLife Donates to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life - September 6-7, 2008 Every year, the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life brings together entire communities from across the nation to take part in the fight against cancer, to celebrate survivors, remember the lost, and defeat a disease that touches so many lives. This year, FreeLife is sponsoring a team of 12 students – GoChi For Life – who will take turns walking or running around a track for up to 24 hours.  This event will help to support much-needed patient services in the community, such as free wigs, rides to treatment, family retreats, and classes that teach patients how to cope with appearance-related side effects of treatment. THE TOMMY FUND FOR CHILDHOOD CANCER July, 2008- New Haven, Connecticut The Tommy Fund for Childhood Cancer is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing emotional, educational, medical, and recreational support to children with cancer and their families.  The Tommy Fund also works to improve the cure rate of childhood cancer through the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital and the Yale University School of Medicine. Through their collaborative efforts, the Tommy Fund is able to diagnose and provide treatment to children with blood disorders and malignancies, conduct research and teaching in the field of childhood cancer, and support entire families throughout a child’s treatment. BAHAMAS CHILDREN'S EMERGENCY HOSTEL June 17, 2008 – Nassau, Bahamas The Bahamas Children's Emergency Hostel was established in 1962 by the Bahamas Christian Council. In 1968, the Hostel closed due to financial difficulties.  However, it reopened in 1969 under the new leadership of the Kiwanis Club of Nassau. The Department of Social Services (DSS) later became a partner and provides an annual grant in addition to 13 of the 25 employees. The Bahamas Children's Emergency Hostel helps abandoned, neglected, and abused children, ages 1 to 11 years.  Average length of residency is one year. Children attend worship services each Sunday and all school-age children attend primary or pre-school.  Although a recipient of an annual grant from the DSS, the Hostel relies heavily on the benevolence of community-minded citizens and organizations to support its work through donations of finance and time. HELP FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER IN FRANKFURT May 24, 2008 – FRANKFURT, GERMANY The Help for Children with Cancer in Frankfurt organization was established in 1983 by concerned parents of cancer patients and the Director of Children's Cancer Clinic in Frankfurt, Dr. Bernhard Kornhuber.  The purpose of the organization is to help cancer patients in their daily lives within the clinics, as well as to provide support for their family and friends at home. Help for Children with Cancer in Frankfurt gives young patients and their parents continual reassurance and hope during treatment and offers concerned families a place to exchange their experiences, get expert advice, join conversations circles, or just relax from the hard, clinical, everyday life. Fountain for Youth May 3, 2008 – Sydney, Australia Fountain for Youth was established by one of the world’s most prolific sportsmen, Ian Thorpe, and focuses on an urgency to improve the health and education of indigenous children in Australia, recognizing that education is a crucial pathway to better health.  With a vision of “Embracing Humanity by Nurturing Children,” Fountain for Youth successfully partners with aboriginal people to rebuild communities, educate, and provide support, while giving indigenous children the same opportunities afforded to all of Australia’s youth.  By generating awareness of the health emergencies Australia’s youth face, Ian Thorpe created an organization that represents true advocacy and genuine commitment to improving the lives of children. Variety - The Children's Charity May 7, 2008 - Auckland, New Zealand Variety - The Children's Charity is a not-for-profit worldwide organization dedicated to helping sick, disadvantaged, and disabled children around the world. Through a range of “signature programs” and financial grants, Variety encourages all children to live fulfilled and enriched lives, and to strive to reach their full potential.  Variety New Zealand’s Sunshine House was once run completely by its members, but now boasts a professional fundraising and grants team where revenue is given through public donations and fundraising events.  Located in Auckland, the mission of the Sunshine House is “Helping New Zealand Help New Zealand’s Kids.” The American Cancer Society’s Camp Sunrise April 11, 2008 – Phoenix, Arizona The American Cancer Society believes that cancer doesn't have to be a reason for a child to miss the fun and excitement of camp.  That’s why they developed Arizona Camp Sunrise, a program that hosts camps for kids, retreats for teenagers, and support services for parents. Arizona Camp Sunrise hosts a one-week summer camp, a winter weekend retreat, as well as other activities throughout the year.  Open to children 8 to 16 years of age, Arizona Camp Sunrise is designed for patients and cancer survivors. The Centro Regiomontano de Educación Especial, A.C. (CREE, A.C.) March 4, 2008 – Monterrey, Mexico The Centro Regiomontano de Educación Especial, A.C. (CREE, A.C.) is a non-profit organization incorporated into the State Education Board that has been helping people with intellectual disabilities since 1964. The CREE, A.C. organization is a pioneer of special education in Mexico, is the first of its kind in Latin America, and is the only institute in Monterrey that enrolls alumni with severe intellectual disabilities. Libres por Amor A.C. March 5, 2008 – Chihuahua, Mexico Libres por Amor A.C. is an orphanage for children with drug and alcohol addictions. The home has 140 children with addictions, comprised of 50 girls and 90 boys. The children range from 5 to 16 years of age. The purpose of the home is to provide rehabilitation for children by providing services such as medical attention and one-on-one therapy sessions with a trained psychologist. Libres por Amor A.C. also provides a family setting for children, where they learn to interact socially with others and integrate back into society. Fundación Domus Alipio A.C. March 6, 2008 – Mexico City, Mexico Foundation Domus Alipio A.C. is a 10-year-old, non-profit organization that assists people infected with the AIDS virus. The mission of the organization is to provide services to pregnant mothers, children, and young people who suffer the consequences of the deadly disease, and whose economic and social situation is of extreme poverty. Blake’s Miracle Foundation February 6, 2008 – Mesa, Arizona Blake’s Miracle Foundation helps terminally ill children with alternative pain management therapies. The goal of the organization is to help children not to think about their disease and remove any thought of pain or death – even if just for just 15 minutes. Pediatric pain is the most under treated condition in our nation, causing children to have greater distress, which slows healing time and depresses immune function, leading to an increase in morbidity and mortality of surgical procedures. Blake’s Miracle Foundation helps children by offering pain management therapy, including psychology, hypnotherapy, guided imagery, massage, music therapy, and much more. Rocky Mountain Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer February 12, 2008 – Salt Lake City, Utah Rocky Mountain Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of children with cancer and their families.  Rocky Mountain provides patient advocacy, education, emotional support, and hope to over 900 families who live in Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, Idaho, and Colorado, and whose children are or have been treated at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The FBR Open - The Thunderbirds January 28 - February 3, 2008 – Scottsdale, Arizona FreeLife's GojiKids made a donation to the Thunderbirds at the 73rd annual FBR Open at the TPC Scottsdale, in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Thunderbirds are a Phoenix-based group of 55 volunteers who work with the community to raise millions of dollars to benefit numerous organizations and individuals.  Most notably, the Thunderbirds support the courageous athletes of the Special Olympics; youngsters of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Scottsdale, Phoenix, and East Valley; and the affiliated agencies of the Valley of the Sun United Way. Throughout the years, the FBR Open, with the help of the Thunderbirds, has raised nearly $43 million for Arizona charities. Bowl With Champions Presented by Special Olympics Arizona and the NFL Retired Players Association -- Sponsored by Brunswick Recreation Centers January 30, 2008 – Gilbert, Arizona FreeLife’s GojiKids made a donation at the Bowl With Champions event at Brunswick Zone XL in Gilbert, Arizona. This exclusive event featured members of the NFL Retired Players Association of Arizona, members of Special Olympics Arizona, as well as our own California Royal Ambassador David Hull.  All proceeds, including the GojiKids donation, benefited Special Olympics Arizona. 2008       2007       2006       2005
